Cambridge Who's Who Turns the Spotlight on Gerry Black
Gerry Black, veteran TV, movie and stage actor, uses his expertise to help aspirants break into show business
NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA, September 12, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Gerry Black, President of Gerry Black, Inc., has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in entertainment.
A professional actor since 1967 when he got his first role in a N.Y. Shakespeare Festival stage production, Mr. Black has also graced both the big and small screens. He is best known for his roles in various TV dramas and sitcoms, including "Hill Street Blues," "King of Queens," "All in the Family," "Living Single," "ER," and "Hangin' with Mr. Cooper," and the movies "Blankman," "Captain Avenger," "Tin Man" and "The Majestic" starring Jim Carrey, for which Mr. Black received rave reviews. As a live performer, Mr. Black has showcased his theatrical abilities at the New York Shakespeare Festival, The American Place Theatre, The Pocket Theatre in Detroit, the Playhouse in the Park in Philadelphia, the Westbury Playhouse, and Cherry Lane Theatre. He has also done major commercials for companies such as Kellogg's, Staples, and Little Caesars Pizza.
In addition to performing and auditioning for roles, Mr. Black is the eponymous president of Gerry Black, Inc., an entertainment company through which he mentors young actors. He is sought after not only for his knowledge of acting, but also for advice on health and nutrition; thus, in addition to providing acting classes and advising young actors on finding photographers and agents, he helps them stay in shape for acting roles. Formerly a door-to-door salesman in New York, Mr. Black exhibited a flair for theatrics that inspired a customer to suggest that he take acting classes. This paved the way for his colorful and lucrative career as a performer. He attributes his success to the determination instilled in him by his father, who taught him from an early age to go after what he wanted because the world didn't owe him anything.
Mr. Black is a card-carrying member of the Screen Actors Guild, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, and Actors' Equity Association. He was recently selected as a VIP member of Cambridge Who's Who, which will also feature him in its maiden issue of Pro-Files magazine. Well-versed in sundry aspects of show business, he has studied acting, film, writing, directing and budgeting. As enamored of his profession as ever, he looks forward to continuing his involvement in all of these areas.
