Harriet Kinghorn Named Professional of the Year in Children's Fiction

PORTLAND, OR, October 14, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Harriet Kinghorn, Published Author and Retired Educator, has been named a Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Children's Fiction. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Cambridge Who's Who membership.
Ms. Kinghorn's success in writing children's literature is grounded in her extensive experience working with youth as an educator. With four decades of professional experience, she began writing full-time upon retiring from her teaching career. Ms. Kinghorn has authored and co-authored articles in national educational magazines, as well as numerous activity books, including "A Child's Book of Greeting Cards" and "Children of the Bible." She has developed a total of 48 books for elementary- and intermediate-level readers. A few of her most notable works include"Let's Meet Famous Artists," "Videotape Your Memoirs," and "Every Child a Storyteller: A Handbook of Ideas."
In addition to her recent distinction as Professional of the Year in Children's Fiction, Ms. Kinghorn has received a number of formal recognitons for her work in both writing and education. A few of these honors include winning first place in the Denver Women's Press Club In-House Writing Contest in 2000, a Storytelling World Award in 1995, and a commendation from the International Reading Association in 1991. Ms. Kinghorn credits her success to the support of her late husband. She hopes to collaborate on writings with her daughter in the years to come.
In 1977, Ms. Kinghorn earned a master's degree in education from The University of North Dakota. She previously received a Bachelor of Science in education from The University of Nebraska.
