A Pembrokeshire gallery is set to pay tribute to the late British artist Graham Sutherland, who was inspired by the region's famous coastline.
TENBY, WALES, January 26, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Pembrokeshire holidaymakers with an interest in British art may like to attend a forthcoming event at the Oriel Y Parc Landscape Gallery in St David's.
On Thursday February 17th, the venue is due to remember the life and work of Graham Sutherland with a special day of events dedicated to the late English painter, who was a member of the neo-Romantic movement in the 1940s.
Held on the anniversary of his death in 1980, the gallery's Graham Sutherland Day will feature a series of talks from local experts on aspects of Pembrokeshire that inspired the artist.
Although born in south London, the painter was greatly inspired by the rugged landscapes of the south Wales region.
His surreal oil paintings based on the wild Pembrokeshire coastline are among his most celebrated works, along with his portraits, which were not always met with approval by their subjects.
Winston Churchill famously loathed Sutherland's painting of him in old age and the painting was later destroyed on the orders of the former prime minister's wife.
People who wish to learn more about the artist during a stay in one of the hotels Tenby has to offer should head to the Oriel Y Parc event, which will run from 11:00 to 16:00.
LateRooms.com offers a range of accommodation in Tenby, including the Fourcroft Hotel Tenby.
