Katherine 'Kim' McDermott Showcases Professional Brand through Cambridge Who's Who
Katherine McDermott has written and published four books
CHARLESTON, SC, July 28, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Katherine McDermott, Author & Illustrator, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in creative writing and illustration.
Katherine McDermott, a former high school English teacher and guidance counselor, retired from the Charleston County School District in 2008. While an English teacher at Garrett Academy of Technology, she taught several classes including Advanced Placement English, American literature and creative writing. She is the author of four books: All Work, All Play; The Underwear Tree; Les Petits Gards; and South Carolina Lighthouses. In addition, she has written two three-act plays, three one-act plays, and articles for numerous regional and national magazines. She currently works as a freelance author and illustrator. She is familiar with Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Pinnacle, Adobe and various other software programs and maintains affiliation with the Folly Beach Arts and Crafts Guild, The Charleston Artist Guild and American Christian Writers. She is a juried exhibiting member with three artist guilds. In recognition of her creative talents, she received an Award for Excellence from the Blue Ridge Writers Conference and Honorable Mention in a magazine article writing contest.
Katherine McDermott holds a Master of Education in Counseling from The Citadel earned in 1986 and a Bachelor of Arts in English Cum Laude from the College of Charleston in 1979. She holds Gifted and Talented Certification; National Board Certification in Language Arts, Literature and Secondary Education; Advanced Placement Certification; and Certification in Secondary Guidance from The Citadel. She is also a Professional Licensed Counselor. Ms. McDermott graduated from Middleton High School, where she was the valedictorian of her class, a Biology Award winner, the yearbook editor and a cheerleader, in 1975. Around the same time, she was named Teenager of the Year by a local Elks Club. Ms. McDermott is married and has two sons.
