Gilbert Afflick spent 25 years working as a newspaperman
PALM COAST, June 14, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Gilbert Leslie Afflick, former journalist, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in writing and editing throughout his career.
With 56 years of professional experience, including 20 years as a desktop publishing editor with a leading Wall Street corporation, Mr. Afflick says he was driven by his ambition and talent to seek self-expression and establish an emotional connection through his writing of stories, feature articles and columns.
For 25 years, he worked on daily newspapers as a sports reporter, court reporter, copy editor, humorist and commentator on public affairs.
In 1960, Mr. Afflick extended journalism training at the University of the West Indies and stepped up his credentials in 1962 with a certificate of recognition from the Commonwealth Press Union of Fleet Street, London. To better appreciate relationships within the British Commonwealth and its relationship to countries outside that circle, he attended a course of lectures at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, Oxford University.
Expanding his portfolio, in 2004 he published "The Farmer and the Thief", a novella about life in socialist Jamaica. This spring he began a work of fiction on the impact of Christopher Columbus in the West. Gilbect Afflick Enterprises, in which his wife Velrose is his partner, provides the medium through which they both turn out work on a day-to-day basis -- he writes articles, essays or human-interest pieces, and she does water colors and home-decor crafts.
