Nancy V. Ridenour Honored for Excellence in Visual Arts
Nancy V. Ridenour creates abstract montages inspired by her travels around the world

ITHACA, NY, March 19, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ --Nancy V. Ridenour, Photographic Artist and Sculptor for Lotus Studios, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in visual arts.

After concluding a distinguished 32-year career in education as a biology teacher and department chair at Ithaca High School, Ms. Ridenour decided that it was finally time to devote her energies to her other passion - visual arts. She established Lotus Studios in 2006, naming it after the flower that has been the centerpiece of much of her art since she first saw it as an expatriate and volunteer in Laos in the 1960s.

Inspired by her travels throughout the United States and abroad, Ms. Ridenour takes digital photographs and manipulates these to achieve abstract montages. Besides images from nature, she utilizes pictures of buildings and sculptures in her work. She is also a sculptor, and fashions figures out of cement and flexible copper. Ms. Ridenour attributes the success that she has found in her second career to her family values and Germanic background, which taught her the importance of hard work.

Ms. Ridenour received an administrative certification in 2003 from SUNY Cortland. She earned her master of arts in teaching in 1973 and her bachelor's degree in biology in 1965, both from Cornell University. She is a member of the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), a member of the Science Teachers Association of New York State (STANYS), and an honorary member of the National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT). Honors of which she has been a recipient include an Excellence in Teaching Award from STANYS and a Sigma Xi Excellence in Teaching Award. She was president of NABT in 1990 and president of STANYS in 2000.

Also active in civic organizations, Ms. Ridenour is a docent at Cornell Plantations and at Cornell University's Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art. She participates regularly in activities organized by the Cornell Campus Club and the Ithaca Garden Club. Additionally, she sits on the board of Light in Winter, a science and arts festival in Ithaca.
