LateRooms.com - Nam June Paik Comes to Liverpool
The work of Nam June Paik takes centre stage at the Tate Liverpool.
LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND, December 24, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Tate Liverpool is showcasing a major retrospective of the work of Nam June Paik, who is described as being the inventor of media art.
Not only will attendees from Liverpool hotels be able to look at 90 pieces created by the artist, they will also have the chance to enjoy documentary footage of various stages of his career.
Running until March 13th 2011, this display features some works that have never been shown in the UK.
It is the first major exhibition in the country devoted to the artist since 1988 and the only retrospective since his death in 2006.
The Korean-born American was an academic in Germany for a time but became world-famous for his use of videos in art.
Among his most recognisable pieces are Paik's robots, with a number of these on display at the Tate Liverpool.
"The exhibition celebrates Paik as the inventor of media art. At a time when television was still a novelty, Paik foresaw the future popularity of this new and exciting medium," remarked the organisers.
Entrance costs GBP6.50 and the building is open between 10:00 and 17:50 GMT from Tuesdays to Sundays.
Visitors keen to gain a more advanced understanding of Paik's work could attend one of several related workshops taking place at the arts space.
Further material is being showcased at the Foundation of Art and Creative Technology.
