Milan welcomes a "tall" exhibition by John Baldessari, who admitted he rarely has the chance to create anything like the collection in question.
MILAN, ITALY, November 19, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- An exhibition by John Baldessari entitled The Giacometti Variations has gone on show in Milan and features a selection of tall models.
Travellers staying in the luxury hotels Milan has to offer can find this unusual and intriguing collection at the Prada Foundation.
With its high ceilings, the venue was perfect for housing Baldessari's nine sculptures, which are adorned with different garments depending on when visitors head down to the arts space.
The artist remarked: "I've always wanted to do tall paintings and sculptures. I suspect it's because I'm quite tall.
"I've had little opportunity since most galleries have wall heights that mirror the wall heights of collectors' homes."
He explained that he was inspired by the Degas Ballerina sculptures and felt like he borrowed ideas from those pieces.
The exhibition will be available to view until December 26th 2010 and has received glowing praise from Wallpaper's JJ Martin, who described the "fear factor" of seeing the 15 ft models wearing oversized clothes.
He pointed out that the figures also boast an unusual shape, with waists the same size as their necks.
The venue, which was established by Miuccia Prada and Patrizio Bertelli in 1993, can be found on Via Fogazzaro.
