LateRooms.com - Discover Carrie Mae Weems in Seville
Carrie Mae Weems' work is on display in Seville this summer and poses several intriguing questions for viewers.
SEVILLE, SPAIN, July 07, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Art fans who want to be challenged by an exhibition could head down to the Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporaneo (CAAC) in Seville to see the work of Carrie Mae Weems.
This display - entitled Social Studies - investigates the role of the intellectual in culture and history, calling into question the visibility of people who contribute to the way events unfold.
According to the venue, the exhibition focuses on "untold stories" and features work from the past 30 years of the artist's career.
One of the central questions Weems asks is: "If given the opportunity to change history, what would you do?"
She uses her work to wonder whether people can change history and how much responsibility intellectuals must carry.
Weems was born in the US and has had her work displayed all over the world.
Tourists staying at the nearby accommodation Seville has to offer can view more than 100 photographs, about 20 major pieces, as well as audiovisual installations and video displays by Weems.
Running until September 19th 2010, the exhibition has been curated by Elvira Dyangani Ose and produced by CAAC.
Opening hours for the art space are from Tuesday to Friday, 10:00 to 21:00 local time, Saturdays from 11:00 to 21:00 and Sundays between 10:00 and 15:00.
The museum is closed on Mondays.
Tickets to enter this temporary exhibition cost EUR1.80 (GBP1.47).
