A show celebrating the birth of metaphysical art and the work of its founder Giorgio de Chirico is taking place in Rome.
ROME, ITALY, May 21, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- If travellers want a crash course in metaphysical art, they could pop in to the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome this summer and check out Nature According to De Chirico.
Running until July 11th, it will give people holidaying at hotels in Rome a comprehensive review of Italian artist Giorgio de Chiricio's work, with about 140 paintings on display.
The exhibition is curated by Achille Bonito Oliva and features art borrowed from various prestigious institutions and private collections across the globe, including some pieces that the venue claims have never been seen before in public.
Palazzo delle Esposizioni described de Chirico as the founder of the metaphysical art movement and praised the way he constantly explored the possibilities of the style to try to evoke the nature of real life.
The art space explained: "The concept of nature is a constant focal point in de Chirico's work: whether idealised in mythological landscapes, exalted in the poetical apparition of his famous still-lifes, transfigured in the hallucinating urban landscape of the Italian Piazza, or frozen within the strict geometry of the mannequin."
De Chirico died at the age of 90 in Rome, but his impact is celebrated in this exhibition, which is being held in the 100th anniversary year from when he brought metaphysical art into being with The Enigma of an Autumn Afternoon.
The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 (local time), closing at 20:00 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays and 22:30 on Fridays and Saturdays.
Tickets cost EUR12.50 (GBP10.70).
