Dan Obana Paints Images from Our Collective Dreams in the Matrix of the Mind at Agora Gallery
Chelsea's Agora Gallery will feature Japanese artist, Dan Obana, in The Matrix of the Mind. The exhibition is scheduled to run from February 26, 2010 through March 19, 2010 (opening reception: Thursday, March 04, 2010).
NEW YORK, NY, February 26, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dan Obana's digital arrays of imagery are multilayered pieces that make use of cultural references and a multitude of varied textures to create striking and highly original dreamscapes. As Dan constructs his works, he plays with size and scale, and arranges his images according to a variety of styles: he is equally comfortable in both loose and dense compositions. Like the mechanisms of memory, these works rearrange the chaos of raw sensory experience into highly original patterns. He appropriates images and invites the viewer visually to plunge right in and explore. Dan's work, then, is as much about the process as it is about the finished product. These pieces invoke classical as well as contemporary forms to create sometimes dizzying abstractions and fantasy portraits, yet works that are always engaging.
Dan Obana's image manipulation is highly conceptual but also rooted in the very tactility of life and memory; the viewer who explores his work is rewarded by the challenging yet startlingly beautiful compositions.
