A fundraiser for victims of Haiti's earthquake is being held at Free Spirit Yoga in Long Beach, CA. All proceeds go to Doctors Without Borders. Among items to be auctioned is an original watercolor painting by Long Beach artist, Debbie Lewis.
LONG BEACH, CA, January 31, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- On Saturday, Jan. 30, there will be a fundraiser for Haiti earthquake disaster victims, held at the Free Spirit Yoga studio in Long Beach. All proceeds from the event will go to Doctors Without Borders. The entire community is urged to attend.
The fundraiser will include a silent auction of more than 20 items and services, along with a raffle of similar items and services and music during the event. The event starts at 2 PM at the Free Spirit Yoga Studio at 3910 Atlantic Ave. and all winners will be announced at 3:45.
Among the items to be included in the silent auction are: original watercolor painting by Long Beach artist, Debbie Lewis; artwork by Long Beach artist, Douglas Orr, numerous Pilates, acupuncture and chiropractic and Long Beach Bootcamp sessions, home design consultation, cooking class, a 750 GB hard drive and Theatre West Productions tickets. Among items to be raffled are free ink for a year, massages, jewelry, dinner at Nino's Restaurant, gift certificate from Salon Pop and Barber Salon, dog teeth cleaning, Pilates lesson and more.
All funds raised will go to Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), an international medical humanitarian organization created by doctors and journalists in France in 1971.
"There is nothing better than helping a worthy cause," artist Debbie Lewis said. "We often forget how lucky we are to have homes in a great community like Long Beach. The least I can do is help others less fortunate regain their health and their lives through the generous work of Doctors Without Borders. I hope my Sunflowers painting will make a nice addition to someone's home, but more importantly, generate some needed funds to enable Doctors Without Borders to help victims in Haiti."
Today, Doctors Without Borders provides aid in nearly 60 countries to people whose survival is threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe, primarily due to armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, exclusion from health care, or natural disasters. MSF provides independent, impartial assistance to those most in need. In 1999, Doctors Without Borders received the Nobel Peace Prize.
After enduring delays in receiving urgent medical supplies and equipment, as well as continuous aftershocks that threatened already-damaged facilities, MSF staff are now treating patients inside an inflatable hospital in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. http://doctorswithoutborders.org/news/article.cfm?id=4238&cat=field-n ... elatedlink
